A Massive Thank You!
Tubbyphunk and Middlesbrough Council would like to thank everybody involved and participating in Braziliant! The show went uncannily well (even if the weather was a little ropey) and the after show party was phenomenal, Big thanks to Lady Jane, Cliffy, Nik Barrera and Bobzilla for laying down some solid Brazilian beats.

A FREE evening of Brazilian music, arts & culture
Tubbyphunk and Middlesbrough Council present Braziliant! - An evening of Brazilian music, arts & culture for all. Held in Middlesbrough’s brand new Centre Square in front of the even newer £24m MIMA art gallery. Guests for the evening are Lady Jane Bongo (Mr Bongo) & Brazilian know all DJ Cliffy with live sounds from Brazilian Party starters Banda Odarah playing live before the whole place bears witness to the legend that is Gilles Peterson (BBC1) fresh from his Brahma sponsored adventures in and about Brazil.
The evening will be complimented by Capoeira Norte, BBQ’s and some of the regions Best VJ talent on one huge screen. All-in-all this is guaranteed to be an evening to remember, and what a way to round off the summer!
The party continues into the small hours at the newly opened Rouge with more appearances from today’s special guests plus another chance to see the legendary Banda Odarah perform live. All donations made at today’s Braziliant! Event will be donated to Street Angels, a charity dedicated to supporting the grass roots community in Salvador, North-East Brazil and the issue of Brazilian street children and the conditions they face.

mima (Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art) will open its doors to the public early next year and in the intervening period the new Middlesbrough Centre Square will also be completed, complementing the newly refurbished Library.
An amazing high calibre programme of celebrations is well under way planned for the 30 th September and 1 st October with internationally renowned artists and activities to celebrate both openings that will creating an arc of world-class events. The Workshops

Brazilian Electronic Production Workshops
Braziliant workshop one now complete. Held at Middlesbrough City Learning Centre in Acklam, Middlesbrough. Several students aged 9 - 19 got busy using Apple's Garage Band to create a soundtrack for the opening dance performance at the main Braziliant! event on Sunday October 1st - Tracks produced were of an excellent standard, Well done! Capoeira Dance Workshops
Capoeira Norte's taster workshop held at the Town Hall in Middlesbrough went down a treat. Paul Sadot's expert tuition and knowledge had everybody performing beyond their own belief and his efforts can be seen at the start of the Brazilian event with a combined performance of Capoeira and Breakdance in time with the tracks produced by the group mentioned above. |
